It is said in Genesis nine that man is given dominion over the earth, plant, animal, and all of nature. It also says that all of creation
glorifies God, and it is only by our sin that it is held back. In essence, we are a mere shadow of faithfulness when compared to our inanimate brethren of the terrestrial realm. Psalm 19 mentions this in that there is more to plants and animals’ devotion to their creator that we seem to miss. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.” [1]
In our arrogance, our science claims to understand and wants to decree to humanity our intellect and ability to control what God has created. While mankind can subdue nature to a degree, there is always the reminder that when chaos erupts from natural disasters, we are only kidding ourselves when we believe we can control said natural realm.
In the Gospel of Luke, we see that God has power over his creation when Jesus calms the storm, “And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith?”
So, when the weather forecast is for storms, whether they be rain, sleet, or snow, be comforted in knowing that God is in control, not man. There is nothing you can do other than prepare and accept the outcome, knowing that to accept his will into your life will be your manner of giving Him the glory. Submitting to God’s magnificent sovereignty is a form of reverence and, in the end, placing yourself in a position to weather the storms of life.
Today, regardless of the forecast, may your heart be calmed. May you prepare for eternity in the presence of God by purchasing the milk and bread of life for your eternal journey.
